AUXILIARY LIGATURES V.1
san francisco, california
by taking the traditional bundled tube scheme and tying it into a type of knot, the architecture began to focus on the spacial intersection of multiple programmatic and circulatory paths, as well as the interstitial spaces created between them. through this, the architecture strives to bring the urban fabric up into the tower (beyond the podium), challenging the social hierarchy present in the nature of the residential high-rise. as the tubes deviate from the straight vertical, the voids created define the nature of the knot. this space, rather than creating a sealed object with defined program, implies a blurred zone where the interaction of public and private can be re-established.
